Shakira Gives Birth to Baby Boy
A spokeswoman for the 35-year-old Colombian singer says Shakira Mebarak and 25-year {keyword} -old soccer star Gerard Pique of FC Barcelona welcomed son Milan Pique Mebarak on Tuesday at 9:36 p.m. in Barcelona, Spain.
Shakira has been admitted to the private Teknon clinic at 6:30 p.m. acco {keyword} mpanied by her boyfriend, F.C. Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique.
In the communique, the couple and the family said "We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique ... The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."
Since early Tuesday morning, numerous reporters and photographers had remained on alert outside the clinic, given recent rumors that this would be the day the child would be born.
On Tuesday morning, before the birth, Shakira had tweeted, "I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life."
The baby was delivered by previously-scheduled Caesarean by a medical team headed by Dr. Carlota Garcia-Valdecasa.
Shakira, 35, last appeared in public on Jan. 14 at the Casa {keyword} del Libro in Barcelona, where she attended the presentation of a book written by her father, William Mebarak.

With the sale, Cisco sheds one of the last remaining pieces of its consumer business, following the shutdown of the Flip video camera business in 2011. Earlier this month, Cisco said it would shutter its Umi online video-conferencing service. "Their direct consumer business had all but gone away. This was the next shoe to fall," said ZK Research analyst Zeus Kerravala. "They made a commitment to investors that they were going to focus on their core areas," said Kerravala, who noted that the profit margins for the home networking busi {keyword} ness were lower than those for Cisco's other businesses. The deal comes 10 years after Cisco entered the home networking business with its $500 million {keyword} stock acquisition of the Linksys Group in March 2003. Belkin, a privately held company that makes smartphone accessories and home networking products, said it would continue {keyword} to maintain the Linksys brand, and that it would have a roughly 30 percent share of the U.S. home and small business networking market after the deal. Cisco does not break out financial results for the home networking business. The Cisco business unit that includes the home networking business, as well as other networking and "emerging" technology products, had revenue of $220 million in the most recent quarter, down roughly 12 percent year on year. Shares of Cisco slipped 3 cents to $20.99 in after-hours trading on Thursday. (Reporting by Alexei Oreskovic; Editing by Jan Paschal)

Posted by Ben Kercheval on January 19, 2013, 6:27 PM EST The NCAA has been planning to slim/modify its rulebook for the better part of two years. Frankly, it seemed like it was never going to happen. But on Saturday, the Association adopted a whopping 25 proposals with the intention of shifting its focus to better supporting student-athletes and modifying recruiting rules that are more enforceable. You can check out the release from the NCAA .One of the big changes is that athletes will be able to receive $300 more than actual and necessary expenses, provided the expenses come from an otherwise permissible source. The debate on paying athletes more than the value of an athletic scholarship has been picking up interest over the past couple of years. The idea of compensating athletes at market value is unrealistic, but this is a step in the right direction for anyone who favors extra money for athletes.Additionally, both {keyword} student-athletes and recruits will be allowed to receive actual and necessary expenses for training, coaching, health insurance and the like from a governmental entity. Athletes and recruits can also receive actual and necessary expenses for athletes representing an institution during practices/comp {keyword} etition as well as noncompetitive events.Certain recruiting restrictions have also been eased or lifted altogether. For one, the NCAA will eliminate restrictions on methods and modes of communicating with prospects during the recruiting process. In other words, text messaging, instant messaging, social media messaging these will all be permissible and unlimited so long as the communication is private. So, yes, butt dialing is no longer considered an NCAA issue. However, exactly when a coach can begin butt dialing contacting a recruit is still up for vote.Speaking of coaches, the NCAA lifted restrictions on which staff members contact recruits. This will no longer be limited to a head coach and assistan {keyword} ts. The only restriction is that non-coaching staff members cannot recruit off-campus. However, the NCAA did remove the limits on the number of coaches who can recruit off-campus at any one time. That was the so-called âbaton rule.âAll 25 proposals go into effect on Aug. 1 of this year. There s more to be done and the USA Today has a good look into . But this is a start. Loosening some of the recruiting restrictions that were simply outdated and more trouble than they were worth was a necessity.Share this:

Don Kelly is back.Released in October, the utility man was among 17 players the Detroit Tigers invited to spring training today. Kelly said in a phone interview this morning that he had a number of other offers, mostly from National League teams. But he chose to return to the Tigers for a chance to win the World Series. ÂWhen it comes down to it, youÂre with a club for so many years, and you have an opportunity to go back there and win a World Series with those guys, Kelly said. ÂTo have that opportunity to be a part of that, it was a good opportunity for us.ÂOf the other offers, Kelly said: ÂThere was really one other one that we were seriously considering. It was a contending club, as well, in the National League. Honestly, it was a tough decision.ÂJim LeylandÂs decision to continue managing the Tigers was a factor in KellyÂs decision to return. ÂHeÂs been a huge supporter, Kelly said. ÂDefinitely having Skip there was a big plus in coming back. IÂm looking forward to getting down to spring training and having the opportunity to compete again.ÂOn the other hand, Kelly would have enjoyed a clean slate in the NL.ÂWhen you look at the type of player I am, except for one other club, it was all National League clubs we were talking to, Kelly said. ÂWhen you look at it, I am a good fit for a National League ballclub.ÂKelly, 32, hit .186 in 75 games with the Tigers last season. He said he didnÂt take much time off after the World Series to begin preparing for the upcoming season. The other players invited to Tigers camp were: Right-handed pitchers: Trevor Bell, Shawn Hill, Michael Morrison Left-handed pitchers: Jose Alvarez, Kenny Faulk, Ryan Robowski Catchers: Curt Casali, Brad Davis, James McCann Infielders: Argenis Diaz, Eugenio Suarez Infielders/outfielders: Kelly, Nick Castellanos, Kevin Russo, Matt Tuiasosopo Outfielders: Tyler Collins, Daniel Fields Additionally, the team announced that staff members Kevin Bradshaw, Jeff Cox, Manny Crespo, Chris Cron, Bill Dancy, Joe DePastino, Leon (Bull) Durham, Bruce Fields, Jaime Garcia, Phil Nevin, Al Nipper, Dave Owen, Gerald Perry, Brian Peterson, Gene Roof and A.J.
